Koh Tao Island Muay Thai has a number of experienced Thai boxing trainers from all over the country. In Thailand, almost all young boys train in the sport at one time or another. Just as a stint in the Buddhist monastery is a right of passage for Thai youths, training in Muay Thai is seen as a birthright and a mark of respect in Thai culture.
Many stick with the sport and fight their way into the upper echelons of Thai boxing, making a career of it. Eventually, they become Muay Thai trainers in one of the many training camps around the country. Some use the sport as a way to lift themselves from poverty and join a brotherhood. Others become attached to it for it's camaraderie, work ethic and discipline. Reespect for trainers and opponents is a tenet of Muay Thai. Absent from most bouts are exhibits of showmanship or taunting of opponents.
Our Muay Thai trainers are not only interested in teaching the technical aspects of the sport, but also the proper attitude to bring into the ring.

Name...Sankhao Kyetyongyudh
Also known as... 'Bang'
Hails from... Trang
Age... 36
Fight weight... 90 kilos
70 Professional Muay Thai fights
Head Trainer Island Muay Thai
Trainer of 2 Thai Champions, 1 Lumpini Champion
Bang has been with Island Muay Thai for 5 years. He also began fighting as a young boy.
Don't let the 90 kilos fool you- Bang is a wall of muscle! With his size, it's more difficult for him to find opponents in the same weight class, thus he has moved into becoming one of our most successful and popular trainers.
If you've got some background in Muay Thai and are in the middle to heavyweight range, you'll most likely do some training with our own 'Big' Bang.
Name... Chomyudh Pithak Krueachaidan
Also known as... 'Khao'
Hails from... Nakohn Si Thammarat
Age... 26
Fight weight... 58 kilos
200+ Professional Muay Thai fights
Current Thai Champion/ Lumpini Champion
Khao's face betrays the brutal side of the sport. Still in his prime, and often fighting throughout the country with those who would have his belt, he's generally sporting some sort of Picasso-like facial coloration highlighted by his too-many-times-broken nose.
A current champion and one of the hardest workers and most technically gifted of the trainers, he still finds time to come to Koh Tao to help the staff out at the camp.
Name... Surin Innurak
Also known as...'Surin'
Hails from...Krabi
Age...32
Fight weight...80 kilos
Pro Fights...10
Injury cut short Surin's pro fight career, but he's among the favorite of Island Muay Thai's customers. He's fluent in Engish and has a great time with his students. He's been with us for four years as a fight trainer and also serves in the corner for many of our fighters on fight nights.
Name...Kampong Udom
Also known as...'Ole'
Hails from...Chumpon
Age...29
Fight weight... 65 kilos
Pro Fights...100+
Ole has been working with us for the past 3 years at Island Muay Thai. From just across the water in Chumpon, he decided to leave the mainland in an effort to better his English skills by working with the Western students on Koh Tao. Intimidating to look at, Ole is shy and quiet with a HUGE heart once you get to know him! He's one of our more active professional fighters, traveling the area for fights 2-3 times per month.
Name...Sappanut Kantangkun
Also known as...'James'
Hails from...Chumpon
Age...17
Fight weight...56 kilos
Pro Fights...50+
Just 17 years old, James has seen the inside of a lot of boxing rings in his time. With a quick smile and a prankster's inclination, he's one of the most appreciated of our trainers despite his tender age. A favorite of the Island Muay Thai trainees-especially the women, James is making the most of his time on Koh Tao. He's taking as many fights as he can get to improve his record and experience.
